JOB SUMMARY:

The Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services to the student athletes (7th-12th) in Gravette Public Schools under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with the Arkansas state athletic training practice act. Athletic training services include the prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries or illnesses, as well as the organization and administration of exercise, conditioning, and athletic training programs. The Athletic Trainer will also work closely with coaches, staff, and administration to sustain and improve the success and outcomes of our student athletes and athletic teams.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Under the direction of, and in collaboration with team physicians, works to treat and prevent athletic injuries by developing strategies to reduce pain and improve athletic performance.
  2. In collaboration with the sports medicine team, strength and conditioning staff, and coaching staff, will implement a comprehensive yet individualized program to treat and prevent athletic injuries and illnesses.
  3. Communicate effectively and appropriately with all parties involved in order to enhance and improve understanding on athletic injuries and illnesses.
  4. Maintain order of operations for the athletic training program, including coordinating the schedules of athletic team events and practices to provide the maximum amount of athletic healthcare provided to our student athletes.
  5. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including medical, accident, and treatment records as required.
  6. Evaluate athletic injuries and illnesses, assessing pain and function of the student athlete.
  7. Coordinate referral to appropriate healthcare provider when necessary.
  8. Prepare individualized written treatment plans including therapeutic goals, rehabilitative exercises, and the use of modalities.
  9. Determine effectiveness of treatment plans and make adjustments when needed to improve patient related outcomes.
  10. Evaluate and oversee return to play following an athletic injury or illness, provide participation clearance when necessary.
  11. Implement the application of taping, bandaging, bracing, and other uses of external preventative and protective devices.
  12. Advise student athletes on the proper use of rehabilitative equipment and devices.
  13. Maintain the safety and cleanliness of athletic facilities in order to prevent athletic related injuries and illnesses.
  14. Detect and resolve environmental risks that could result in harm to spectators, coaches, and event participants.
  15. Respond to emergencies in an efficient and effective manner to optimize and improve the prognosis of the emergent event.
  16. Establish roles and procedures to be carried out by all parties involved in the event of a medical emergency.
  17. Coordinate the completion of mass athletic physical examinations, and individual physical examinations when necessary.
  18. Manage the athletic training student aide (ATSA) program, including the selection, training, and overseeing of ATSA’s.
  19. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment through quotes and bids acquired from medical sales representatives.
  20. Ensure compliance with all Arkansas Activities Association rules and regulations, including DragonFly MAX.
  21. Ensure all policies, plans, and procedures for healthcare in athletics are up to date with evidence based best practice.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Required), Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Certification/Licenses: Must hold Board of Certification (BOC) certification, Arkansas state Athletic Training license, and BLS/CPR/AED certification

Must maintain all athletic training related certifications and licensures throughout the duration of the contract

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs. Ability to aid in the removal of an injured athlete from the playing surface.

 

Equipment/Materials Handled

Must know how to operate rehabilitation equipment, sports equipment (including protective equipment, bracing, etc.), and disinfecting and sanitizing products.

 

Work Environment

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hard wood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.  Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Evening and weekend work may be expected. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
