Position Description

Position Title: PreK Paraprofessional

PREK PARA RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be clocked in and on duty 7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. daily.
  • Follow daily classroom schedule for assigned class using Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) as a standard for classroom structure and organization.  This will include any and all of the following duties that can be done during the contract school day:

*Assist with ‘before school’ set-up:  chairs taken down; tables cleaned and sanitized; class restroom checked; class centers prepared (e.g. Play dough out, water/sand tables filled, art materials prepared, etc.); class drinking water fetched; and any other preparations as needed

*Throughout the school day:  utilize “zone supervision and discipline” with the certified teachers both in the classroom and out (in the cafeteria, on the playground and during class ‘Quiet Time’); interact with students individually, in small groups and as a whole group using Work Sampling checklist to guide and scaffold students’ learning; monitor centers to replenish supplies and assist students with cleaning as needed

*Assist with ‘after school’ clean-up: chairs put up on tables; centers straightened and prepared for the next day (e.g. water table emptied, cleaned and sanitized; paint center closed down; paint brushes washed, etc.)

*Any other duties assigned by the PreK supervisor or the certified teachers

*In the event that the certified teacher is not present at school, the assistant will assume the role of the teacher and perform all duties required per the ECERS, according to the predetermined classroom daily schedule.

 

PREK PARA LUNCH AND BREAKS INFORMATION:

  • All PreK Para will be given two 15-minute breaks each day.  These breaks may or may not occur together for a full 30-minute break.
  • All PreK Para must be present when students eat breakfast, lunch and snack as required by the ECERS.
  • If at all possible, a 30-minute lunch away from the students will be given to the PreK Para, depending upon scheduling circumstances.
  • All personal computer use AND preparations for college classes and/or professional development by PreK assistants must be done during breaks OR before/after daily contract time.

 PREK Para PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PreK Para will attend all professional development opportunities required by the PreK program each year to properly implement the goals of the Glenn Duffy Elementary Pre-Kindergarten program.  
  • Opportunities for professional growth will include the activities listed below and any other training that the PreK supervisor believes will directly impact PreK Para knowledge and student learning.
